MPU has just taken out first place in Cyber SLAM's Innaugural Battle of the LANS, being held at the "My Home Entertainmant Expo" at Darling Harbour.

Congratulations to Woody, Alars, Asuka, Ferahgo, and Jezzail from Clan LT who represented MPU and took us to this glorious victory. This comp was based on the new EA title, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault.

After only 1 day of practise, 4 teams entered the tournament (MPU, SGL, CCGL and IV-LAN). The first round saw SGL defeat CCGL, and the second round saw MPU take care of IV-LAN. This set up an MPU vs SGL final (Who could have asked for more???). After winning the toss, the MPU boys decided to go on the attack in the first round. Both teams started out strong, with the MPU guys achieving 3 of the 4 objectives before running out of re-spawns trying to achieve the 4th and final objective - the defence of the final objective was overwhelming. The second round saw the roles reversed, with SGL on the attack this time, and MPU defending. The SGL team were only able to successfully complete 1 of the objectives in this round before falling victoms to the awesome defense skills of the MPU team (and their ability to deploy land mines like no one else - teheheh).

For their hard efforts, the MPU representives recieve a truckload of goodies from sponsors Logitech (Webcams, Cordless combos, headsets, etc...), and 3 games each from EA. They also recieve free entry to MPU in 2005 as a gesture of our thanks for their efforts. And the last bit of great news out of this is that MPU recieves a brand new dual opteron game server to add to our other new servers. This will allow us to run more dedicated servers for you at MPU, and also provide a wider range of dedicated servers at each MPU event. This is all good!!!

Thanks must also go out to the SGL team - they put up a great fight on what was a new game for both teams. And to the CCGL and IV-LAN teams, thanks for making the trip down to Sydney and competing - better luck next time!

And finally, thanks to Michael from CyberSLAM, the rest of the CyberSLAM gang for organising this event, and to AMD, EA and Logitech for the great prizes.

Congratulations guys. You played an awesome game & came out on top.

I represented CCGL under the nick of MaJ, we didnt get to play you guys coz we were knocked out in the first rounds by SGL.

Lets hope we get to meet in the next Cyberslam matchup.

Was a pleasure to play for MPU.

I for one am glad that the better LAN won. I think I speak for all of us when I say that beating (read: thrashing) SGL on an even playing field is more than reward enough.
