That's right boys and girls, Regos for the next MPU open at 8pm tonight. Click on the Event Registration link at the top of the MPU home page to go and register for our May 21 LAN

If the previous LAN was anything to go by, you'll want to register early for this one!

I'll post some more details about the planned comps etc later.

Welcome aboard :)

Juat a reminder, to you and all the other under-age lanners, that you do need to be accompanied by an adult up to the event hall.

Our suggestion is to get your parents to bring you up when you get dropped off.

We didn't have many dramas with this last event, and I'd like to keep it that way :)

yeh i was gonna ask if my dad can be with me during the LAN. Does he have to pay and reg because he's not bringing a computer, just to watch over me.

I think there may be a cover charge (admins?) but he is more than welcome to sit and watch and enjoy the day with you. Looking forward to seeing you there will. If you need any help on the day myself, admins, and plenty of other people will be more than happy to help.

Damn I wish I was in Sydney to goto MPU :(

Hello to all the regulars and guys I know down there :)

The darwin LAN scene is small but worth it :)

About 60-100 people go every two months so I still get my fix

Leashz - It's the clubs rule, not ours. They'll stop you at the front desk for sure. A couple of options are, wait for someone else 18+ to rock up and they can take you with them, or ask at the desk if they can call upstairs to get one of the admins to come down and let you in. The staff working the desk last weekend were awesome - really helpful and friendly. Just ask them what the options are when you get there :)

It's an a-grade pain in the ring hole, I know. But as I said, these are the clubs rules, and we need to stick to them.

chances are Leashz if u show up say 9:50 or so, there will be sooo many people over 18 which can take you in, you can probably just follow them straight up...after checking with front desk of course ;)

by the looks of it next mpu is a no go unless i can get someone to do my shift..which sux and it goes 12:30am-8pm..so i wouldnt even have time to come down in the mornin to setup, go to work then come back @ 8pm ....which really sucks...either way im determind to make it gawd dammit!..definatly not sacrificing my starwars tickets though dammit!

How do the guys at front desk know if you have registered for the event and if you should be given access? Do you login to a front desk computer or something?

We know if you have registered, because our rego system ties in with the ausgamers rego system. If you have registered and confirmed, then you will show up on our list on the day.

If you don't register and confirm, then you will not be on our list, and you may not be able to attend (depending on wether we have a full house like last MPU or not). Also, if you don't register and confirm, you will not be eligible for the prize draw at the end of the night.

Also, once you have paid you will be given a wristband to wear - and we peform random checks to make sure everyone is wearing a wristband ;)

Awesome. Do we bring our own ethernet cables? Also, im not sure of the difference between x-over ethernet and straight. If i have a network at my house which works with those ethernat cables then will it work at the LAN?

Another question, is there wireless network support so i dont have to bring an ethernet cable?

Yeah, you do need to bring your own cables. See this link for all the info you need.

If your computers are joined together directly with just 1 cable, then that is a crossover cable, and is no good at MPU. If your computers each have their own cable that goes into a box (hub/switch/router), then yeah those cables are fine. Failing that, you can purchase cables from the shop at MPU.

And there will be a wireless access point up and running at the next MPU, but I wouldn't expect the gameplay to be as good as on a wired connection ;)

I do have one cable for each computer so thats cool. And on the note of wireless it is true, but what speed does the access point run at because i have a 54MB/s wireless D-LINK G-520+ AirPlus X-Treme G+ pci adapter.

dont bother with wireless dude, its 1 cable and u get double that speed!

common.. max out your connection with your hdd going nuts as you download @ 13megabytes a second..

or 20+mb if u get a gigabit :P

It'll be a 54Mbps access point... But you'll only get 54 of you are sitting right next to the access point ;) The furthest corners of the room should get at least 5Mbps though.

ok. Are the ethernet switches gigabit? If they are i need a CAT6 cable, hmm have to go buy one (my mobo ethernet is gigabit already)

If it's like last MPU, then the switches that you have access to will be 100mbit. With the network running off a gigabit backbone. Or something along those lines. :)

blind side is correct, some high profile users do have gigabit access.. eg, locutus.

Correct - it's 100Mbps to the desktop switches, running on a gigabit backbone.

And you don't need Cat-6 cable to go gigabit - Cat-5e is all you need. Hell, even good Cat-5 cable will do gigabit :)
