Taken from /. Today is the Amiga's 20th anniversary. Commodore officially introduced the Amiga 1000 with much fanfare at the Lincoln Center in New York on July 23, 1985. It was the most advanced computer of its day. The Amiga 1000 was originally conceived a few years earlier by a small California company called Amiga, Inc. and was financed by a group of Florida doctors looking to invest in a killer game machine Man, I sure do miss those days. Pulling all-nighters at demo parties, co-sysoping at Way Out West BBS, working at a computer shop when stuff like the A1200, A4000, and (ugh) the CD32 were all released. To be honest, whilst the graphics and sounds of new games are great - It is still hard togo past the simplistic gameplay of the old Amiga games. Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge will always be one of my favourite racing games - not hi-tech, but BIG F.U.N. Time to fire up WinUAE! |

Can't remember what I was playing in 1985. Think we got a Commodore Vic 20 in about 1983 complete with leet tape drive. Remember playing Loderunner in 1986 on a 186 PC? or were they 286's? Whatever it was, it had those huge floppy disks. Think it was 1987 my brother obtained and installed our first Sound Blaster card running to an amp and then to two large speakers. Playing X-Wing was awesome with the lights off, that game was so fun and challenging (SP missions) that it had me totally hooked.
Rem playing 'Tracks' or 'Stunts' (?) where it was a simple car racing game and you could make your own tracks with stunts in it (loops) and stuff. If anybody told me then that one day I'd be considering $500 graphics cards and 1mb RAM I'd had thought them crazy. We have come a long way in 20 years, considering games like WoW & BF2. last edited by Nmag at 09:20:52 04/Aug/05 |
