Less than a week to go - I can hardly wait!!!

The comps have been finalised for this week. Here are the details you have all been looking for:

Unreal Tournament 2004 : Capture the Flag
This will be the main comp for the day. The structure will be teams of 5, competing in a double elimination format. Each round will be 30 minutes, or 10 captures - whichever comes first. In the event the time limit is reached, the team with the most captures will win. If the capture count is the same, the team with the highest score will win. If scores are tied, teams will nominate a team champion to play in a 10 minute 1-v-1 round.
Comp will be limited to 10 teams, and registrations will start at 11:30. The comp will start at 12:00.
The winning team will recieve an assortment of goodies from our sponsors (J&W Computers & Networking, DLink, AMD CyberSlam).

Half Life 2 : Death Match
Time for some good old fashioned fragging fun with Gravity Guns :)
This comp will not only be a test of skill, but also a test of endurance. The winner of this comp will be the first to reach 250 Frags.
The winner will recieve a set of EXSOUND Conch USB Headphones (as reviewed here). The winner will also represent MPU in a 1-on-1 online challenge against SGL's HL2:DM comp winner (provided the network gods are good to us and we can set up some connectivity).
Comp will start at 3pm.

MPU Racing Cup : Round 1
This will be the innaugural round of the MPU Racing Cup. The game this round will be Need For Speed : Underground 2. The exact details will be announced on the day.
The winner of this round will recieve a copy of Medal Of Honor:Pacific Assault, and recieve 10 points added to their MPU Cup tally.
For more details on the MPU Racing Cup, please see the racing cup link on the MPU Home Page.

MPU Demo Comp
As announced previously, we are trialing a new concept this MPU. This comp will be based on a demo that gets released in the weeks leading to MPU. The actual game will be announced on the day, and everyone will only have a few hours in which to install, and become familiar with the game.
The winner will recieve some goddies from our prize pool (to be decided on the day). As we don't know what the game is yet, the full details like start times, etc. will be revealed on the intranet site on the day.

If you have any questions about any of the comps, please email mpu@mpu.com.au

Going to have to review the HL2:DM comp - forgot that there is a 16 player limit on the server. So we are going for a max of 64 players, split across 4 qualifying rounds, with the top 4 from each round going into the final round.

The qualifying rounds will be the first to 50, and the final will be first to 200 (still want that enduro aspect :P)

Wouldn't it be way more fun to have a CS:Source comp, and then have the UT2004 comp a big free for all?

We will be looking at having a CS:Source comp in the near future (provided there is interest) from past experiences, CS isn't played *that* much at MPU. I do 'try' to play CS, aint very good, but would throw an 'admin' team together!

Yeah, I know CS isn't the focus of MPU, but a Source comp is a bit different since most of the "so called" pros still seem to stick to 1.6, so it might interest the slightly different crowd that is MPU

Yeah i'd play a CS:S comp, but seeing how there is no DM mod for it yet, can we make it 2v2 or 3v3 aim/fun maps?

Though i'd play in a CS: S comp, the UT2004 is one that is just more... skill, and I hate having a big portion of aiming occuring by a random variable within a cross hair.

demo comp looks good can see a few people frantically trying to master the game before playing comp (unless they already have the full unreleased version that is ) (:-)
