Who would have thought a gathering of nerds and geeks alike could have so much drama. Firstly there was a bomb scare at Lidcombe station which resulted in all the roads leading to the station being blocked off, thus not allowing anyone into the venue!.

Then at roughly 4pm the club's fire alarm went off, we all had to evacuate the building, we weren't sure if it was a drill or if was real. Needless to say some punters were reluctant to leave their expensive PC's sitting upstairs, but alas, we had to follow protocol and leave everything sitting there. The evacuation only lasted 30-40mins or so, hey at least we can say MPU was memorable!

Onto the day, as I said earlier the bomb scare didn't help with people getting in, but once everyone made it in, it was an enjoyable day! We ran a few comps, namely BF2 6 v 6, with LT - Randoms taking the glory on this occasion, we also ran a Track Mania Sunrise (demo) comp, Legionaire took this one out - the bloke had been waiting all day for this comp! And lastly the Unreal Open comp was won by Alars.

Upcoming events
August 13
October 8

At this stage these are the only 2 events left of the year for MPU at the Lidcombe venue (the other months are booked solid) What are your thoughts on the Lidcombe venue? Is it to big/ to small, is the lighting good? Easily accessable to eveyone? We are starting to plan for next year, we want good dates at the venue we chose, so planning this far ahead is essential. We are more then happy with the new Lidcombe venue, so we'll be looking to secure some dates for next year ASAP.

As always if you have any feedback please either email us or post on the forums

Hope to see you at the August 13 MPU!

Well, What can i say. Mpu did it again
it was an awsome saturday full of fun, socialising and gaming.

Im sure everyone would agree that MPU was awsome this saturday. Got some good battlefield 2 action going, and some Counter-strike source. about 90 people turned up...great turn out.

Thanks admins for a great saturday day/night. Hope to see you guys next time.

Steven King

P.S Gotta love how people took their laptops when the fire alarm went off :D

I loved the lidcombe venue, only issue for me at the first one was that when you're there by yourself there isn't really anywhere good to leave your stuff while you park. That carpark is a long way to carry a 19" flat crt from =) Hitachi make heavy stuff =(

Great day overall. Plenty of gaming going on which was good.

As far as the venue goes, like i've been saying numerous times before, lidcombe catholic club is perfect IMO. The stairs are probably the only negative i can see, and there's an elevator anyway so... Basically it's a top venue, with all the little bonuses like a bar in the hall where the lan is, perfect lighting, air-con, and good lunches that make it a great spot for lans. :)

I'd like to take this opportunity to extend a huge thanks to Bertie who, once again, ran a one man show on the day. The comps ran smoothly as always and any network issues within our control (i.e. not the net connection going and down, that was out of our control) were dealt with extremelyt quickly.

*Big round of applause for Bertie*

You've Changed, Em... :P

Comps were late starting, cause I was on daddy duty till 1pm.
Brace yourselves for some more comp action next month - with FiREFLy helping out, it's gunna be comp-o-rama!!!

We won't be able to give prizes for all the comps, but will see what we can do.

i recon it was a good venue and quite close to where me and my friends live.
I still believe more comps should be set out as well as prizes. What happened to the xbox comps? It was quite fun for me and my friends to play on the xbox for comps while leaving the comp on for leeching. Seriously bring out the xbox, even though i saw the xbox on the table from the pictures, were you trying to hide it? Neways more comps, good venue. I think i speak on behalf of my friends.

The bomb scare and fire alarm were both heardy's fault and he is most likely a terroist in disguise.

with the great event came a disaster for me. My gerforce fx 5700 at 510MHZ core and 660MHZ memory lost its will to live and died with hours left in the LAN. I missed out on the two comps i'd waited hours for. The Sunrise and BF2 comp....=(

Sorry to hear about the hardware dying mate, but there'll be more TM and BF2 action next MPU, and the comps will be starting earlier this time :)
